Alex De Lazzari
Rising Tenor Star
Italian-born tenor saxophonist Alex De Lazzari blends soulful tradition and modern flair to bring fresh energy to the jazz scene—with both powerful originals and swinging standards.
About
Originally from Italy but raised in the Washington D.C. area, Alex De Lazzari began playing saxophone at age 12 and was deeply inspired by John Coltrane. He moved to New York in 2017 to study at William Paterson University, where he was mentored by jazz luminaries including Vincent Herring, Mike LeDonne, Bill Charlap, Rich Perry, and Harold Mabern. Since graduating in 2021, he has become known as a strong young voice on tenor sax, performing extensively along the East Coast and overseas.
Music Style
De Lazzari’s style leans toward hard bop rooted in post-Coltrane tenor traditions, emphasizing lyrical phrasing, swinging grooves, and a balance of classic repertoire and original compositions.
