Known for his work with Ember and Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band, he has performed on multiple GRAMMY-nominated albums. A 2021 MacDowell Fellow, Curtis balances rigorous preparation with a daring exploratory spirit.

Music Style

His music features an 'urgent and wailing' alto tone and methodical structures. He weaves together post-Coltrane intensity with Ornette-inspired melodic freedom and rhythmic flexibility.
