Caleb Curtis
Visionary Sonic Architect
A Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist blending progressive bop with adventurous free improvisation to create a singular, urgent, and deeply melodic sound.
About
Raised in Michigan and now a pillar of the New York scene, Caleb Curtis is an acclaimed saxophonist and composer. Known for his work with Ember and Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band, he has performed on multiple GRAMMY-nominated albums. A 2021 MacDowell Fellow, Curtis balances rigorous preparation with a daring exploratory spirit.
Music Style
His music features an 'urgent and wailing' alto tone and methodical structures. He weaves together post-Coltrane intensity with Ornette-inspired melodic freedom and rhythmic flexibility.
