Rising Bass Virtuoso
A dynamic upright bassist, Caleb Tobocman blends deep-rooted jazz tradition with modern energy—gripping grooves, elegant tone, and unmissable presence on some of NYC’s most respected stages.
About
Raised in a musical family living in Manhattan Plaza, Caleb Tobocman began playing upright bass at age 16 and quickly developed into one of New York City’s most in-demand young bassists. He studied at Manhattan School of Music under Ron Carter and Buster Williams, and has already shared the bandstand with luminaries like Vincent Herring, George Coleman, Nicholas Payton, and Emmet Cohen. Known for both his rich tone and versatile technique, Tobocman regularly performs in small ensembles and contributes to major recordings.
Music Style
Tobocman’s style draws from straight‐ahead jazz tradition with strong emphasis on swing, rich acoustic resonance, and interactive improvisation—comfortable in standards, original compositions, and modern jazz settings.
