Fukushi Tainaka is one of the best-known Japanese jazz musicians of his generation and one of the most in-demand drum players on the international jazz scene. He became a professional jazz drummer in 1976 in Japan and moved to New York in 1980, where he studied with jazz pioneers Philly Joe Jones and Louis Hayes. A longtime member of alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson's group, he has performed with jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Kenny Garrett, and James Moody.
