Henry Fraser
Experimental Bass Innovator
Double bassist and composer exploring solo bass as a compositional collaborator in jazz, free improvisation, and spectral music.
About
Born in Boston in 1991, Henry Fraser is a double bassist, bass guitarist, and composer based in Brooklyn since 2014. He graduated from New England Conservatory of Music with a B.F.A. in 2014, studying with Cecil McBee, John McNeil, Anthony Coleman, and Ted Reichman. His rigorous solo bass explorations and collaborative work across jazz, free improvisation, and experimental music have established him as a technical and creative force among his generation.
Music Style
Fraser treats the double bass as both instrument and compositional collaborator, exploring resonance, physical gesture, and extended acoustic inquiry. His work spans improvisation, composition, and interdisciplinary collaboration across jazz, free-improv, noise, and spectral music.
