Iris Ornig
NYC Jazz Bassist-Composer
Original female voice on NYC jazz scene blending European tradition with modern jazz, blues, and improvisation.
About
Bassist and composer Iris Ornig is one of the most original voices on today's New York jazz scene. Since arriving in NYC in 2003 from Germany, she has collaborated with influential contemporary jazz musicians including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Gretchen Parlato. She leads her own quintet and regularly performs at top NYC jazz clubs.
Music Style
Ornig combines European tradition with expanded chord structures of modern jazz, blues inflections, improvised riffs, and swing rhythms. Her compositions are swinging, melodic, sensitive, and playful with plenty of twists and surprises.
