Jason Rigby
Inside-Outside Saxophonist
Compelling tenor saxophonist blending deep tradition with fearless exploration across jazz, free improvisation, and experimental music.
About
American jazz tenor saxophonist Jason Rigby has carved out a unique artistic niche with his compelling inside-outside style of musical performance. Born in Japan to a Navy family, he moved to Cleveland at age five and was inspired by Coleman Hawkins' 'Body and Soul' at age ten. He studied at Youngstown State University, DePaul University, and Manhattan School of Music, and has appeared on multiple Grammy-nominated recordings.
Music Style
Rigby's playing is rooted in the deep tradition of the tenor saxophone but pushes far beyond, blending influences from Coltrane and Wayne Shorter with exploratory free jazz and contemporary sounds. His approach emphasizes tone, feel, and connection through textural experimentation and deeply rooted improvisational skill.
