Kyle Koehler
Hammond B3 Master
Three-decade jazz organ virtuoso keeping the Hammond B3 tradition alive with swinging trios and collaborations.
About
Kyle Koehler is a Philadelphia-native Hammond B3 organist who has been one of jazz's most important voices on organ for three decades. Influenced by organ legends Shirley Scott and Charles Earland, he moved to NYC in the late '90s after earning a college degree in music performance and composition, where he began leading trios and performing with top jazz artists including Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Heath, and David 'Fathead' Newman. Recognized as a 'Rising Star' by Downbeat magazine and selected as a Jazz Ambassador by the Kennedy Center and U.S. State Department, Koehler continues performing internationally while leading educational workshops.
Music Style
Koehler plays swinging Hammond B3 organ trios rooted in the 1950s-60s tradition, blending classic soul-jazz grooves with modern sensibilities. His approach honors progressive organists like Jimmy Smith and Larry Young while maintaining his own contemporary voice.
