Matt Mitchell is an American jazz pianist and composer born in 1975 who grew up in Pennsylvania and studied at Indiana University and Eastman School of Music. He leads multiple ensembles including Phalanx Ambassadors and Snark Horse, collaborating with leading contemporary improvisers. Mitchell has received a Pew Fellowship (2012) and Doris Duke Impact Award (2015), establishing himself as a central figure in modern creative music.
