About
Born September 1, 1976 in Tokyo, Japan, Ryo Sasaki took up the trumpet at age 15. He studied performance at Berklee College of Music (1996–1999) under Darren Barrett, Tiger Okoshi, and Charlie Lewis. Since 2000 he has played and taught in Tokyo, and since 2006 has also been active in New York venues like Smalls and the Blue Note.
Music Style
Sasaki’s music blends post-bop jazz with expressive lyrical lines and traditional jazz standards, steeped in both Japanese sensibility and New York’s jazz club culture.
