About

Timothy Joseph Norton is a bassist, composer, and educator from the foothills of New England, now rooted in New York City for over a decade. A faculty member at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Syracuse University, he is an in-demand sideman who has shared the stage with Jason Palmer, Ralph Peterson, and Jeff Watts. His 2022 debut album Visions of Phaedrus, inspired by Plato, introduced him as a distinctive bandleader voice.

Music Style

Norton brings a nuanced, post-bop sensibility to his playing, marked by firm technique and a rounded tone. His compositions range from intimate conversational structures to samba-inflected grooves, embracing both philosophical depth and everyday humor.
