Tyler Blanton
Vibraphone Vanguard
Brooklyn-based vibraphonist Tyler Blanton brings a lyrical, post-bop voice with modern flair — praised as heir to masters like Gary Burton and Bobby Hutcherson.
About
Born and raised in California, Tyler Blanton began with guitar and drums before shifting to mallet percussion and vibraphone, inspired early on by his grandfather’s jazz legacy. He completed his music degree in 2006 at Sonoma State University after studies at CalArts, then moved to New York in 2007 where he established himself as a composer and leader, releasing his debut album ’Botanic’ in 2010 and subsequent works that draw from modern jazz, soulful roots, and eclectic influences. Blanton has toured internationally and been featured in major publications; his recent album ’References & Irreverences’ was released in January 2024.
Music Style
Blanton's musical style is firmly rooted in modern jazz and post-bop, characterized by a refined melodicism, sophisticated harmony, and a warm, expressive tone. His compositions are often intricate yet approachable, showcasing a balance of intellectual rigor and emotional depth.
