Snag the velvet couches near the stage early if you want a dedicated listening experience away from the gaming noise.

About

Originally opened as Fat Cat in the 1990s, the venue rebranded as Cellar Dog in 2021 following a significant renovation. It has long served as a vital, less formal alternative to the neighborhood's more traditional jazz rooms, maintaining its reputation for hosting high-quality musicians in a relaxed, accessible setting. The sprawling 9,000-square-foot basement features an industrial-chic aesthetic with high ceilings, neon signs, and rows of pool and ping pong tables. Unlike strict listening rooms where silence is mandatory, the vibe here is social and bustling, with the music providing a vibrant soundtrack to the gaming and conversation. The stage is situated at one end of the room, surrounded by mismatched couches and chairs that offer a front-row seat to the nightly performances. The crowd is a mix of jazz lovers, college students, and locals, creating an energetic and social atmosphere. Cellar Dog continues to be a popular late-night destination for groups and casual listeners, featuring a rotating selection of local talent and a wide array of craft beers. The venue bridges the gap between a divey game hall and a serious music venue.
