About

Founded in 1995 by Dale Fitzgerald and legendary trumpeter Roy Hargrove, The Jazz Gallery began as a rehearsal space and quickly evolved into a nonprofit cultural center. It has become a launching pad for artists like Esperanza Spalding and Vijay Iyer, known for its cutting-edge programming and commitment to nurturing new talent. The venue is located on the fifth floor of a Broadway building in NoMad, featuring a minimalist loft aesthetic with excellent acoustics. The intimate space, seating around 70, is designed for serious listening, with cabaret-style tables and a stage under a skylight. The audience is typically composed of dedicated jazz enthusiasts and musicians. Programming includes Artist Residencies, Commissioned Works, and a Mentor Series, fostering new music and fresh voices. Shows typically feature two sets per night, with a focus on modern and experimental jazz. The venue emphasizes music over food or cocktails, offering wine by donation and no full dinner service.
